I honestly think its really fascinating that each of us has their own roots and culture. Everybody has their own beliefs and traditions engraved deeply inside your heart. Something that shapes who you are, what your past is, and what your future will be. Different cultures has more influence on a person than what is actually viewed.
The fact that something has a massive influence on your identity is intriguing. You got your name from your culture, the way you were raised is somehow related to your culture, your future job is also controlled by your culture. You can never change this fact because you're connected to something which you never signed up for. Thats why cultures is a seemingly double-edged sword. It could be good, it could be bad. Sometimes the culture carry so much issues that one cannot tolerate that theyre connected to this for the rest of their life, hence breaking ties with their culture. On other hand a culture may be so good to the point one could be so connected to their culture theyre ready to die defending its name. A culture could be just a hit-or-miss. It all depends on what convinces you. However, culture is really just a mindset thats planted in your head, it can make you proud or shameful.. Its like a brainwash for a child sometimes, but if it was pleasant then theres nothing wrong in loving your own culture. If your culture carries misogyny, injustice, racism, discrimination (toward others), etc.. it may be better if you rethink your connection to the culture. You can still love your culture but accept its flaws and not defend them. Or you may hate yur culture and never admit its yours. It all depends on your mindset after all.
I think we, as humans, need to learn about each others' cultures for it makes us less judgemental and more understanding of others perspectives. If you were racist toward a specific country, exploring their culture will help you understand why are they like this. As long as youre ignorant of other cultures you will forever carry this hate toward innocent people who have the good and bad in them. One point is that travelling helps you regarding this matter. Going to more countries forces you to interact with more people and see the actual good in them. You will then understand that its just what was planted in your head is just dismissive to this race. Finally I think being insightful onto more cultures, besides yours, gives you a grasp of communicating with people.
My favorite place on the web is Neocities.
